Shikshadayini

A registered charity, rooted in education

Giving a little.Changing a life.Creating a better tomorrow.

We help children stay in school, help people learn skills that become livelihoods, and care for the communities around us, always with dignity at the centre.

What we believe

When a child is given the chance to learn, the impact reaches far beyond the classroom.

It changes a family.Education can shape a future and, over time, strengthen an entire community. Our journey began with this simple belief.

Everyone deserves a chance. To learn, to work, to live with dignity and to build a life of greater independence.

Small acts add up.Keeping a child in school. Teaching a skill. Caring for an elderly person. On their own they seem small. Together they last.

Our work

Education first, and everything it makes possible.

Giving becomes truly meaningful when it helps someone move forward. Our work grows from the classroom outward, into livelihoods, everyday care and the places people call home.

Education at the heart

We support children from families with limited means, so that money never becomes the reason a child gives up on school. We also take educational programmes and workshops into rural communities, bringing learning and guidance to people who might not otherwise have access to them.

“When a child is given education, we are not only investing in that child. We are investing in everything that child can become.”

Standing on one’s own

Training, practical experience and encouragement that help people from different backgrounds discover their abilities and earn a meaningful livelihood. The best support eventually lets a person support themselves.

Dignity at the centre

We support people with disabilities towards self-employment and independence while minding their essential needs. We help senior citizens with necessities and open doors for women through skills and employment.

Education in action · Manjakudi & colleges

A computer lab for Manjakudi, and an open door for deserving students.

Shikshadayini donated a computer lab to a school in Manjakudi, a village in rural Tamil Nadu. Students now learn digital skills on computers of their own, a chance many of them would not otherwise get.

We also hold seminar sessions at colleges to talk about Shikshadayini and our work. At every session we invite deserving students who need support with their education to register with us, so that money does not stand between them and their studies.

Self-skill & entrepreneurship · Salaam Bombay

Cameras for young people from Mumbai’s slums, and a skill to build a career on.

As part of our self-skill and entrepreneurship programme, we donated cameras to children and young people at the Salaam Bombay Foundation’s Media Academy. With cameras of their own, they can learn photography properly and keep practising every day.

Their photographs already capture life in their own neighbourhoods. Over time, the same skill can become a career, whether as a working photographer or a small business of their own.

Self-reliance · Shankara Foundation, Hyderabad

Helping differently abled children become self-sustaining.

With the Shankara Foundation in Hyderabad, we support differently abled children and young adults towards one goal: a life they can sustain on their own. As part of our self-skill and entrepreneurship programme, we donated cameras and help them learn photography as a real, earning skill.

They learn by doing. Together they go out on assignments and cover real events, such as the Special Olympics Bharat National Health Fest, working alongside professionals.

Every assignment builds confidence, a body of work and the independence to earn from their own talent, so that they can stand on their own feet.

Standing on one’s own · Livelihoods

The keys to a living of their own.

Sometimes the best help is the means to earn. We have helped people get their own vehicles, from an auto-rickshaw to a car, so that they can drive for a living and support their families with dignity.

A vehicle of their own means steady income, freedom to choose their own hours and the pride of building something themselves.

Green initiative · Tree plantation

Planting trees with the communities who will care for them.

Our plantation drives bring volunteers, families and local leaders together. Mothers, grandmothers and children plant fruit-bearing saplings such as mango and coconut in their own village, so each tree gives shade, fruit and a reason to keep caring for it.

From village grounds to open fields, every drive leaves behind a little more green and a community that feels it belongs to them.

A rescue story

Found weak and sick on the beach. Healthy, happy and loved today.

When we found this pup, its skin was raw and its fur almost gone. With treatment, food and a lot of patience, it grew into the bright, playful dog you see now. Every stray we help deserves the same second chance.

Education support, handed over in person.

Families come to us so that school fees never stand between a child and the classroom. These are a few of the moments we have shared with them.

Standing with our municipal workers

The people who keep our streets clean are part of our community too.

Municipal sanitation workers do some of the hardest and least seen work in our cities, every single day. We stand with them, offering support and recognition for the care they give to the neighbourhoods we all share.

Sometimes it begins with one person choosing to help another.

There is always more that can be done. As Shikshadayini grows, we hope to welcome volunteers who give their time, professionals who share their skills, and anyone who wants to contribute in whatever way they can.

We want to build a community that carries responsibility towards society every day, not only now and then. One act of help can become the beginning of something much bigger.
